Dear Eagle Family,
We have just about put the 2008-09 athletic year to bed as our two track and field teams each had several student-athletes participate over the weekend at the West Regionals in Eugene, Oregon. We had some excellent performances as you will read in the link below while one student-athlete, Michelle Coombs, is still awaiting word as to whether she will be a wild card entrant into the National Championships. Congratulations to each of these performers.

May also featured the inaugural EeeWoos for Eastern Athletics. This was the brainchild of Davin Perry, our media specialist and proud Eagle Alum. This extravaganza was a tremendous success as we were able to celebrate our year in athletics at Eastern while sharing in a night of fellowship. The event was a "take off" on the ESPY's and with Davin's vision as well as Kyle Hoob and Marc Hughes' skills, the evening was a resounding hit. We are already looking forward to the 2010 EeeWoos. Below is a link of both photos and video as well as another link for results.

You might have read over the past couple of weeks about cost-saving measures that the Big Sky Conference has instituted in response to the nation's recession. Many of the measures will not affect the fan's day-to-day affiliation with the Conference but there are a couple that will be new (actually old and now new again) and be interesting for our fans. The Conference voted to enact Friday-Saturday games in both basketballs as well as volleyball (in place of Thursday-Saturday). This move will save both money and time spent away from class by our student-athletes. In all, the various decisions made by the Conferences' membership will save approximately $425,000 (or about $47,000 per institution). Here is a link from the league's website describing the decisions in more detail.
